Rotarun is a non-profit organization that provides several early ski learning opportunities for the valley children by accepting all applying children, ages 5-12 into our Learn Alpine Ski And Race(L.A.S.A.R.) program, we doubled our participation. Friday Night Race Series
and Snow Box Derby were also well attended.

This year we have  elected a new slate of executive board officers. The long-term goal of Rotarun’s board is sustainability so that Rotarun can continue delivering year-round recreational access for all.  With the continued support of our local community, our spring, summer and fall fund raising events, and donors like you, we’ll get there.

Learn to Nordic Ski at Galena Lodge!: The expert nordic ski instructors at Galena teach all abilities from first timers to advanced skiers. They offer both classic and skate instruction and can customize a lesson structure just for you and your schedule. See below for some Nordic ski lesson options.

Ski Clinics: Improve your Nordic skate or classic skills at one of Galena Lodge’s ski clinics scheduled throughout the season. The instructors will offer participants a chance to advance their techniques in an encouraging environment. Ski clinics are primarily geared for the beginner and intermediate skier.

Ski the “Boulder” Clinic

This clinic is designed to get you ready for the Boulder Mountain Tour. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned Nordic skier this clinic is designed to help you get the results you are looking for in the Boulder this year. Race starts, group skiing, marathon pacing, and wax preparations are some of the techniques which will be covered during these clinics. Advanced registration is encouraged.

The sun shone bright today for the 38th Annual Swix Boulder Mountain Tour.  There were 873 registered racers in the Boulder and Half Boulder ranging in age from 7-86.  On a fast course,  the top three male and the top three female racers finished within seconds of each other.

2013 SVNF Poster

The induction ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the NexStage Theater, Main St. Ketchum.

This annual event honors our past and present outstanding local skiers who not only excel in the sport but continue to contribute to the community.  The new honorees will be added to the Hall of Fame in the KSVHS Ski Museum.

Tickets for the induction ceremony are $25 available Monday through Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Ketchum /Sun Valley Ski Museum in Forest Service Park, 1st St. and Washington Ave.  Your donation includes appetizers and one drink.

The KSVHS is proud to present this annual event to highlight the great skiing history of Sun Valley.  To quote Picabo Street:  “I have always considered myself a Sun Valley Skier.  Sun Valley’s mountains, Dollar and Baldy made me the skier I am.  I thank my community for this acknowledgement.  I am truly honored.”

SVSEF Alumni skier, Annie Pokorny, now skiing for Middlebury finished 4th in the 10km Freestyle race.  SVSEF Gold Team Women, Alexa Turzian finished 12th and Chelsea Holmes 15th.

The new ski area called “Croy Nordic” is made possible because of the unique collaboration and partnership between the BCRD, the City of Hailey, the Croy Canyon Ranch Foundation, the Blaine County School District, the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, private land owners (the Simons family), and the Wood River Land Trust.  “We could not be more excited about Croy Nordic. This was truly a community effort and we want to thank all of our partners and supporters who saw the vision, provided the resources and made it happen.  South Valley Nordic skiing is an integral part of the fabric of active winter life in the Wood River Valley and we are thrilled to see it thrive at Croy Nordic this winter,” says BCRD Executive Director, Jim Keating.

As soon as mother nature cooperates, Nordic skiers will discover new, diverse terrain out picturesque Croy Canyon on over 7.5 kilometers of trails situated on eight different parcels of land generously provided by private land owners.  Access and parking for Croy Nordic begins at Lion’s Park in Hailey. The system will include a sledding hill, the BCRD yurt warming hut, a separate skiing area for dogs, and a rich blend of classic and skating terrain for all skill levels.

Croy Nordic complements the work and efforts of the City of Hailey and the Wood River Land Trust in the enhancement of the Lion’s Park and Draper Perserve areas that form the Hailey Greenway.  With the introduction of the Bow Bridge by the Wood River Land Trust and Croy Nordic, this connected greenbelt conserves access to Hailey’s unique river environment in both the winter and summer seasons. Residents and visitors can now enjoy a unique combination of active recreation including hiking, biking, softball, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and nature walks on the boardwalk.

Croy Nordic is part of the 160-kilometer BCRD Trails Nordic ski system, one of the nation’s largest.  Once ski season begins, users will be asked to purchase a $10 Croy Nordic day pass at the trailhead or purchase a BCRD Trails season pass.
